SYNOPSIS: Jason Bourne seeks revenge on the evil doers that killed the girlfriend that he befriended in the original film (Film 2 of 3). Surprise!, it is the evil U.S. Government!
CONCEPT IN RELATION TO THE VIEWER: Milking a good thing to make more money, and milking it very well.
PROS AND CONS: I knew going into this that it would be entertaining. The first installment (The Bourne Identity) [reviewed several weeks ago], was a good, well thought out thrill ride. This film is the same, with an eye on a franchise money maker.
The back story is a blurry here. How and why Bourne's ‘girlfriend’ is killed prior to the film (hence setting up the plot) is explained, but only in passing. The motivation for the carnage in the film is stretched a bit thin.
That said, this is a great example of how modern film making can make up for lack of plot or story-line. The film moves along quickly and you have to pay attention….for 2 hours. If you didn’t catch it all, there is the third installment (The Bourne Supremacy) coming up in the near future. (and a 4th installment from Hollywood reportedly in the works).
This film is a part of my LaserDisc Collection.
