SYNOPSIS: The struggles of a modern suburban family are chronicled.
CONCEPT IN RELATION TO THE VIEWER: The experiences that we all share in one form or another weaved together in one complex tapestry.
PROS AND CONS: There will be a lot of bias here. This is a great film. I am not the only one to think so. The Academy gave this film 5 Oscars, including best picture. So, it is bound to have some redeeming value.
It has much more. There are films where various aspects just meld and come together to form something greater than the sum of its individual parts. This is one of those film. Personally, I know that my life experience mirrors several of the themes and scenes in this film. I believe that almost anyone that views it will come away with the same feeling.
I find that there are several films that touch on this type of chord in all of us. Films that show the common thread of our humanity and our experiences. Fellini knew how to do it back in the early 1960s. David Lean could do it in his latter epics. This film would rest on the same shelf as those films.
This film is a part of my LaserDisc Collection.
Clicking on the title will take you to the Internet Movie Database (IMDB) entry for this film.
This film was viewed while exercising on my recumbent cycle. A summary of my time spent working out on my journey through movie-land can be found on Strava.com.
