DATE VIEWED: 11/06/2015

TITLE: Ex Machina

FORMAT: Blu-Ray

TIME RIDDEN / FILM LENGTH: 1 hour 48 minutes

DISTANCE RIDDEN WHILE VIEWING: 23.5 miles

TOTAL CINEMA MILES LOGGED: 3338 miles

SYNOPSIS: A nerdy programmer is brought to a secret lair of a wealthy and arrogant genius to test whether an android with artificial intelligence is indeed sentient.

CONCEPT IN RELATION TO THE VIEWER:  Powerful people do powerful things that are often times creepy, until we understand the ramifications, and then they become super creepy.

PROS AND CONS: I didn’t much care for the ‘style’ of the film.  It was slick and very well done, but visually, it came off as a bit cold and uninviting.

That said, it was the only thing I did not like about the film.  This is real science fiction set in a real world context.  At first, I had a hard time accepting the concept that these people could really live like they do in the film and create the things that they make.  But then I realized, I have no real idea how Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg live.

This film wrestles with the whole “humans becoming god” issue that surrounds the creation of artificial intelligence.  Are we responsible for what we create?, and once we create it does it have self determination or is it a servant?  Heady stuff, that just keeps coming closer and closer.
