"Secret Sex"

Carrie and Mr. Big have their first official "date", but Carrie suspects Mr. Big is keeping her secret from hissocial circle. Miranda dates a man from her gym class, but she discovers a spanking video in Ted's apartment.

CONCEPT IN RELATION TO THE VIEWER:  Women’s fantasy life, of glamour, fashion and fellowship in the big city.

PROS AND CONS: This series is what it is.  It is engaging to watch because it was one of the few dramas made for television that is extremely well done and is in a 30 minute format.  If a story is told well, you don’t need to take a lot of time to do it.

On this second review of the series the two things that popped out at me more than anything else were the exceptional music that perfectly captures the intimate urban vibe of New York City and the hilarious script.

In each episode there is one scene that is both funny and uncomfortable to watch, such as watching the spanking video that Amanda found in her boyfriend's apartment and watched with Carrie.  It had me laughing out loud.

DATE VIEWED: 10/16/2015

TITLE: L.A. Journal Volume 1

FORMAT: Laserdisc (8 inch)

TIME RIDDEN / FILM LENGTH: 13 minutes 46 seconds

DISTANCE RIDDEN WHILE VIEWING: 4.7 miles

TOTAL CINEMA MILES LOGGED: 3124.3 miles

SYNOPSIS: An historical archive of images from Los Angeles California

CONCEPT IN RELATION TO THE VIEWER:  Data and the brain's ability to process it.

PROS AND CONS: An interesting study of how much information the brain can process in 15 minutes.  Also an early study in the concept of photographic memory when digital photography was just becoming available.

Excerpt from the Internet Laserdisc database:

"L.A. Journal is an ongoing series ...", says the jacket copy, a plan echoed in Voyager's 1994 product catalog. It devotes an entire page to descriptions and stills of Volume 1, but also quietly lists a Volume 2 with a 1994 release year and the catalog number "V1076L". This second volume was likely stuck in development and consequently never released, making this another case of "Voyager vaporware", as their first "Prince of Tides" release nearly became.

Analog Left is a spoken track featuring poetry and the like.
Analog right is a different musical score from that on the digital track comprised of the vintage music of L.A.

Cinema Cycle - Predator

Predator (1987)

DATE VIEWED: 10/14/2015

TITLE: Predator

FORMAT: DVD

TIME RIDDEN / FILM LENGTH: 1 hour 47 minutes

DISTANCE RIDDEN WHILE VIEWING: 25.1 miles

TOTAL CINEMA MILES LOGGED: 3119.6 miles

SYNOPSIS: Big men on steroids, with lots of guns, in a rain forest, are stalked by an alien hunter.

CONCEPT IN RELATION TO THE VIEWER:  Arnold at his finest.  Giving the us the next in a line of American Icons.  Macho does not get any thicker than this.

PROS AND CONS:  First of all, you have to take this film for what it is.  An action fantasy that leans heavily on all those things masculine.  Big muscles and big guns…..and a lot of bad-assery.

Memorable are the appearances of Carl Weathers and Jesse Ventura, along with some of Arnold’s better one liners, not to mention a franchise gold mine for later films.

Probably little noticed are the subtle jabs regarding the environment and what happens when you start to mess with it.  it is a profound statement amongst all the explosions and gunfire.
