Season 2 / Episode4

They shoot single people don't they?
  1. Good looking wealthy women and the pitfalls of faking relationships / orgasams
  2. If I had a 12 year old son, I would require him to watch this series.  So he knew what to expect in his future.
  3. A somber episode, with Cynthia Nixon as a quasi-porn star, but it is funny.

Notes

  1. Life in 1990 Los Angeles
  2. Woody and Bette dialogue can be hard to take.
  3. In the time before cell phones, every phone has a cord!
  4. Malls don't look like this anymore.
  5. So far I am underwhelmed.  To much fast Woody dialogue and personal issues.
  6. Not movie escapism, more like movie therapy.
  7. Not enjoying this.  Tedious / not funny.
  8. Woody takes profound films by foreign directors and puts an American slant on them.
  9. It's a sort of plagiarism. (Scenes from a Marriage)
  10. Sex scene in the theater...Really?
  11. The best thing about this film is the Mime.
  12. All the franchise mall stores that are no longer in business.
  13. Fabio in the elevator!
  14. Ideal movie for folks going through a divorce.

He Saw / She Saw: Mr. Popper's Penguins

Sue:

I figured this would be a cute, feel good movie with Jim Carrey and was not disappointed. He played a divorced dad, with two children, who inherited a penguin from his deceased father (and then wound up with 5 more).  Silly antics and over all theme that family is more important than work.  Some scenes were not realistic but overall a cute family film.

Bruce:

I was hoping for some light hearted slap-stick entertainment from Mr. Rubberface himself.  Sadly, what I ended up watching was another retread of Hollywood's obsession with re-uniting the broken family through some cute plot twist.  It gets tiring after a while.  There were some key scenes that were apparently cut from this Blu-Ray presentation which made it even more confusing to watch at the end.  The best part of this film was the CGI penguins.

He Saw / She Saw - The Thriller Collection / Masquarade

Sue:

"Masquerade" first aired on network TV on October 30, 1961 -- the 43rd episode of the "Thriller" series.

Tom Poston and Elizabeth Montgomery play a young married couple that takes refuge from a storm in an old mansion (the PSYCHO house). John Carradine plays his creepy role as the head of the family that could be vampires, cannibals or just plain murderers.

The episode was more amusing rather than scary, and the twist ending will either bring a smile or a groan to the viewer.  I was not impressed

Bruce:

Back in the day, you had 'The Twilight Zone', 'The Outer Limits' and this show.  While the other two had either great writing or pushed the bounds of television horror, this one just has Boris Karloff.

This episode highlights a very young Elizabeth Montgomery (Bewitched) and Tom Poston with a lot of dialog that requires a suspension in belief.  (i.e finding someone dead in the basement and then going to the kitchen to scramble eggs).

In the end, there is sarcasm and a comedic ending but not much else.

He Saw / She Saw - Hello Again

Sue:

Fantasy chick flick that was a bit too corny for me.  Wife dies and is resurrected a year later to find her husband married to another woman.  Story goes on how she copes, but was not at all believable.  Few laughs, but would not recommend.

Bruce:

An awful film, but it had one interesting perspective.  This is a 'Touchstone' picture, which means it is Disney.  Touchstone was created to market PG related fair since the Disney standard was strictly "G" rating.  So it is interesting to see a film green lighted that basically has to deal with black magic reincarnation, and in fact, treats it as just another day at the office with a lot of slap stick comedy thrown in.  Watching this film made me feel uncomfortable.

He Saw / She Saw - Wag the Dog

Sue:

I highly recommend this movie.  You will not be disappointed.  Great cast - Dusty Hoffman at his finest, along with Willie Nelson and Jay Leno.  Sadly, a believable story line that shows how to manipulated the general public.

Bruce:

In these times of domestic and foreign upheaval, I request that everyone watch this film before posting or discussing ANYTHING political.  This film was intended to show farce and satire of the American Political system when it was released.  There is just one slight catch.  In the 10 years since it was released, what was once farce has now become reality.  After watching this film and then turning on the nightly news broadcast...there was no difference.

He Saw / She Saw - A Million Ways To Die In The West

Sue:

This was an hilarious film.  At first it seems odd, but it turns out to be one vulgar sight gag after another.  I was literally laughing out loud through most of the film.

Bruce:

Pretty much anything Seth MacFarlane does is genius.  I expected this to be a rather silly film, but found it be absolutely hilarious, especially the unrated version, where profanity was the primary weapon and not guns.

He Saw / She Saw - The Gods Must Be Crazy

Sue:

This film started out slow, but by the end it becomes totally engrossing and funny. The film offers several different perspectives on modern society that makes the viewer question a lot of things.

Bruce:

A comedy classic in my opinion. Even though the film is 40 years old, it is still very relevant today. In subsequent viewings, the comedy fades and the moral stories of the characters shine through more and more. A great film in the comedy genre.

He Saw / She Saw - Ball of Fire

Sue:

A cute film, focused more on the glamour of the cast than a believable story.

Bruce:

Focus on all the renown character actors here, and the dialog, which is often hard to keep up with. A variation on the theme of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'. It is evident why Stanwcyk was considered a sex kitten of her day.

He Saw / She Saw - Tillie's Punctured Romance

Sue:

A strange film that really has no plot, but a lot of slapstick comedy. The woman playing Tillie is impressive, she is 'huge' but very athletic and limber.

Bruce:

As the credits state, this is the first full length (more than one reel) silent comedy. The film dates from 1928 and was produced by Mack Sennet, stars Charles Chaplin (as the bad boy) and also features the iconic Keystone Cops. Since they were inventing the genre here, they didn't have a play book, so comedy translates to being punched or pushed down every 30 seconds and a lot of being kicked in the butt (seriously, at least every 10 seconds). No real plot here, just a morality tale of love and money.

He Saw / She Saw - The Duchess and the Dirt Water Fox

Sue:

The liner notes looked promising, but this was an awful movie. Goldie Hawn is young, George Segal comes off as a jerk. By the time we got to the end, we were eagar for it to be over.

Bruce:

Sometimes, Hollywood makes films just to keep employees working and give them something to do. When you have a character driven period comedy that is poorly written and directed, you end up with this film. Hawn's character is semi-naked through most of the film, and George Segal is just abrasive. The ending scene left the viewer wondering of the writer just ran out of ideas and leaves you hanging.

Cinema Cycle - Bewitched S1E3

Not the comedy you remember from childhood. What you see now is the Fellini side of Madison Ave in the 1960s. What if Pete Campbell in Mad Men had a witch for a wife? Just substitute Darrin and Samantha. An added bonus are all the guest stars they parade through each 25 minute episode. In this particular case. Jack Warden as a lecherous baby food magnate.

Cinema Cycle - Mr. Write

Not a great film. It picks up a bit at the end, but most of the time I was checking my email. Paul Riser can be a bit hard to take in certain roles, especially in a romantic comedy. (However he was excellent in Aliens).
