This To Shall Pass

RGM Version by the Band OK Go
(click the graphic for the video)

I don't usually do a lot of video links, but some exceptional ones have been coming my way of late. You may have already seen this one, since I am sure it will be going viral, if it hasn't already done so.

I have never heard of the band or this song, and I would have to admit that after watching this video, I beleive that this video will be remembered more for its visual impact than its music.

After watching it pretty closely, I can't find any obvious trickery or slight of hand in the one shot take of this video. If that is the case, then it probably ranks as one of the most awesome music videos of all time. The video speaks for itself..... Happy Hump Day

...and for the first time in several days...no booty references.

My-MP3 [Time Tunnel]

Artist: John (Johnnie)Williams
Album: Televisions Greatest hits Vol: 2
Song: The Time Tunnel
Released: 1966

One of the perks of having an AppleTV unit is being able to browse the old television shows that are available for download from iTunes. I ran across this little gem and downloaded the first episode to see if it was still as cool as I remembered back in 1966.

In essence, it is. While the show and the acting are way out dated, this was a real stretch for television. A massive government funded experiment for time travel that goes arye, episode after episode. I am sure many of the sets were recycled for "Vogage to the Bottom of the Sea" and other Irwin Allen classics.

The theme song is actually pretty far ahead of it's time, composed by what must have been a very young John Williams, before his "Jaws" and "Star Wars" fame.

My - MP3 [Perry Como]

Perry Como / Ocean's Eleven (Soundtrack) / Pappa Loves Mombo

Don't write this song off just because of the artist. While Perry Como embodies the laidback smooth genre that fascinated our parents back in the 1950s and 60s, he is sort of considered old and stuffy by today's standards. However, I believe that behind his trademark sweater there was a real crazy person dying to cut loose. This song was probably considered pretty damn racy back in 1957. Listening to the lyrics today, I am amazed that this song hasn't been used on a Viagra commerical. This song is best known for being on the "Ocean's Eleven" soundtrack, which if you haven't heard it, is exceptional.

My - MP3 (The Police)

The Police / Outlandos d'Amour / Born In The 50s

Artist: The Police
Album: Outlandos d'Amour (Outlaws of Love)
Song: Born In The 50s
Released: 1979

Track List:
01. Next to You
02. So Lonely
03. Roxanne
04. Hole in My Life
05. Peanuts
06. Can't Stand Losing You
07. Truth Hits Everybody
08. Born in the 50's
09. Be My Girl - Sally
10. Masoko Tanga

I had this album in college and to the best of my recollection, this song was not on it. It was on the "b-side" of a 45rpm they released, which is where I first heard it. Regardless, it is not a well known Police song, which is a shame. It highlights the band in their early days, when they were a bit more edgy and angry. The song is aimed at all the baby-boomers and recounts how the images that we witnessed in the 1950s shaped our lives.

Lyric:
Would they drop the bomb on us
While we made love on the beach
We were the class they couldn't teach
'Cos we knew better
