CONCEPT IN RELATION TO THE VIEWER:   Really good film making.  Very entertaining and intriguing, so much so that the viewer really has no idea what is going on until the last 20 minutes of the film.

PROS AND CONS:  This is one of those sleeper films in my collection that was much better than I expected.  Back in the day, Hollywood made films that relied on technical skill and acting in front of a camera, not created on a computer graphics system.

This film is a tour-de-force for Bette Davis, who does her best over-the-top crazy and yet is still rock solid believable in her role.  The supporting cast, including Olivia Dehavilland and Joseph Cotten are also stellar.

If the film didn’t stand on it’s own merit, the back story behind the film and it’s production are almost as entertaining.
