TITLE: Gangster Squad
FORMAT: BluRay
TIME RIDDEN / FILM LENGTH: 2 hour 5 minutes
DISTANCE RIDDEN WHILE VIEWING: 30.1 miles
TOTAL CINEMA MILES LOGGED: 3824 miles
SYNOPSIS: Five Los Angeles police officer are recruited to covertly go after an organized crime kingpin in 1949.
CONCEPT IN RELATION TO THE VIEWER: Good guys versus the bad guys in a stylish and dark Los Angeles. Ending in the obligatory mano-y-mano showdown between good and bad.
PROS AND CONS: A fun film to watch. The production is stylish and the acting is above par. While the production design gets Los Angeles in the late 1940 perfectly, the story line becomes somewhat average, only carried along by interesting character portrayals.
Josh Brolin is well on his way to be becoming the next Charles Bronson / Clint Eastwood hybrid, playing the tough cop with a deep down heart of gold to a “T”. Sean Penn, is the typical over the top psychopathic gangster. Ryan Gosling seems a bit oddly cast in this film and comes off as a bit of a pansy for much of the story.
One of the reasons for films such as these, is to give up and coming bit actors a shot at the big time, which is what the ‘squad’ consists of, 2nd tier actors or up and comers that gets picked off one by one until the climactic shot-em up at the end.
