TITLE: Next

FORMAT: HD-DVD

TIME RIDDEN / FILM LENGTH: 1 hour 36 minutes

DISTANCE RIDDEN WHILE VIEWING: 23.1 miles

TOTAL CINEMA MILES LOGGED: 2534.2 miles

SYNOPSIS: A clairvoyant that can see into the future is pursued by nuclear terrorists and the FBI to try and foil a terrorist attack.

CONCEPT IN RELATION TO THE VIEWER: The age old fantasy of what it would be like to have special powers and insights and how it would affect your life.

PROS AND CONS: Initially, this started out as a good film.  You are thrust into the every-man loner scenario with a dark secret.  The ability to see 2 minutes in the future.  The concept opens up a lot of possibilities which are presented well.

As soon as the terrorist plot line is inserted, things start to get a bit muddy.  What appears to be missing is a whole bunch of backstory that would lend credence or at least motivation to the plot.

Issues such as why is Peter Falk in the story and what is his role?  Why is Nicholas Cage drawn to Jessica Biel and is she a pawn of the security agencies or just an unlucky person.  Who are the terrorist and what is their goal/motivation.  How and why do the terrorists know about Cage and why are they trying to kill him.

The ending is actually good, but leaves the viewer with a lot of questions regarding what just happened and what the reality of their future will be.  I was expecting to see another 20 minutes of film to wrap things up.
