Lets All Use A Little Common Sense

Some of you might already know this, but for those of you that don’t, this bares a bit of repeating. 

The attached flyer has been making the rounds on social media. Depending on the source of the posting, it claims to be a message left on a non-white persons door by a disgruntled racist.  

As a disclaimer, let me state: This is racist, un-American and should horrify anyone that reads it. That said, it is almost certainly fake. 

It was never posted on anyone’s door. 

 Lets do the math here shall we. The current political climate has made it acceptable for people with xenophobic views to espouse this type of rhetoric, which is pretty sad. However, when a person of limited intelligence and backward beliefs gets all ‘rilled up’ like this, their preferred method of protest is usually to burn a cross on someone’s lawn, or write “Go Home” with gasoline on their grass.  

What they don’t do, is sit down at a word processor and type out a flyer in Microsoft Word, spell check it and make a few copies on theircolor laser printer, then post it to a door where security cameras might be present. 

Adding insult to injury is the duct tape that states ‘for the wetbacks’ holding the note to the door. I mean really? Sounds like more of a prank to me. The scenario is probably more along the lines of, ‘disgruntled 12 year old who is upset because Coach Gonzalez didn’t pick him for the baseball team’. 

However, there is a sinister side here also. This was not created by an individual (adult or child) who promotes ultra conservative viewpoints. Since the flyer is going to inflame the liberal base that finds this behavior unacceptable, it motivates them to vote democratic in the future. It is more likely ‘kindling’ to inflame the liberal-left in order to motivate them to oppose the far right. It is a tactic used by the Alt-Right, ANTIFA and Russia. We can’t take stuff like this at face value. Every posting has a motivation behind it, much of it subliminal.

He Saw / She Saw - The Gods Must Be Crazy

Sue:

This film started out slow, but by the end it becomes totally engrossing and funny. The film offers several different perspectives on modern society that makes the viewer question a lot of things.

Bruce:

A comedy classic in my opinion. Even though the film is 40 years old, it is still very relevant today. In subsequent viewings, the comedy fades and the moral stories of the characters shine through more and more. A great film in the comedy genre.

He Saw / She Saw - Ball of Fire

Sue:

A cute film, focused more on the glamour of the cast than a believable story.

Bruce:

Focus on all the renown character actors here, and the dialog, which is often hard to keep up with. A variation on the theme of 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'. It is evident why Stanwcyk was considered a sex kitten of her day.

He Saw / She Saw - Tillie's Punctured Romance

Sue:

A strange film that really has no plot, but a lot of slapstick comedy. The woman playing Tillie is impressive, she is 'huge' but very athletic and limber.

Bruce:

As the credits state, this is the first full length (more than one reel) silent comedy. The film dates from 1928 and was produced by Mack Sennet, stars Charles Chaplin (as the bad boy) and also features the iconic Keystone Cops. Since they were inventing the genre here, they didn't have a play book, so comedy translates to being punched or pushed down every 30 seconds and a lot of being kicked in the butt (seriously, at least every 10 seconds). No real plot here, just a morality tale of love and money.

He Saw / She Saw - The Duchess and the Dirt Water Fox

Sue:

The liner notes looked promising, but this was an awful movie. Goldie Hawn is young, George Segal comes off as a jerk. By the time we got to the end, we were eagar for it to be over.

Bruce:

Sometimes, Hollywood makes films just to keep employees working and give them something to do. When you have a character driven period comedy that is poorly written and directed, you end up with this film. Hawn's character is semi-naked through most of the film, and George Segal is just abrasive. The ending scene left the viewer wondering of the writer just ran out of ideas and leaves you hanging.

Cinema Cycle - Picasso: The Criterion Box Set

A real treasure that you can only find on Laserdisc. When coupled with a high end player that has the 'jog' feature to step through CAV format discs, watching this disc is akin to visiting 20 famous museums and seeing EVERYTHING that Picasso created in his lifetime. I could have viewed this disc for hours.

He Saw / She Saw - Jezebel

Sue:

A fascinating period peice with lavish sets and costumes. Bette Davis is young and stunning in this film, not to mention feisty. But the ending was stupid. You expect a bit more closure.

Bruce:

For those that have never seen it, a great film on some levels. Bette Davis as she was just launching an historic career. She is breath-taking and talented. The historical accuracy of the film, even down to the politically incorrect Jim Crow world of the deep south are on full display here. This film is a prequel to 'Gone Wtih The Wind'. But alas, yes. The ending is just odd and leaves you hanging.
