DATE VIEWED: 12/09/2015

TITLE: The Mafia: An Expose - Coming To America (Tape 1)

FORMAT: VHS

TIME RIDDEN / FILM LENGTH: 43 minutes

DISTANCE RIDDEN WHILE VIEWING: 10.8 miles

TOTAL CINEMA MILES LOGGED: 3623.9 miles

SYNOPSIS: The origins of the Mafia and organized crime are chronicled.

CONCEPT IN RELATION TO THE VIEWER: The nature of societies and their sub-groups.  Segregation and prejudice lead to bad things.

PROS AND CONS: The bad thing about this series is the format.  The quality of the video is not that good and the sound is even worse.  What I expected to be a rather bland and simplistic presentation did have some enlightening moments.

This is the first of a ten video tape series and meant to lay the groundwork for the understanding of how the Mafia came to be in the United States.

Despite some of its sensational scenes, there are some very good interviews in the film by academics and politicians regarding the nature of organized crime and how it is prosecuted.  Those include members of President Johnson’s administration, the FBI and a very young Rudolph Giuliani.
